Sexy Farming

While browsing the internet today I saw this at work today and it gave me a good chuckle. I love it when some puts together a fantastic parody. Youtube has made it very easy for creative minds to put their creations out into the universe for all to see. Musicians and Amateur movie makers can move out of their parents basements and start to get their name into the world. I personally support these forms of creative expression and think everyone else should too, if these people who make a video that gets a lot of hits Youtube will actually start to pay them. I know that not every artist wants to get paid for their work but for a great number of them the money could be put towards creating more of their art.

My Enjoyment of a music parody is a throwback to the early 90’s when I was but a young pup and the big music in my elementary school if you were not into Britney Spears was Weird Al. His music always made me giggle and the fact that he took popular music my parents listened to and made it about ridiculous every day topics always tickled my funny bone. The internet is full of very terrible ones so every now and again finding a gem like this is outstanding.

This is also funny to me because I have grown up in cow town and know a bunch of people who are farmers and this reminds me of them. My Wifey did a stint of post secondary out in a small farming collage called Olds, and many of the friends she met there are like this. This also just goes to show the agriculture still exists in North America, which means infrastructure yay and also areas to grow your own food in a zombie attack. So check it out.

Top 100 Insults in cinima

Today was an extremely slow day at work for me and I spent a lot of the time on my favorite website to mindlessly kill time, http://www.stumbleupon.com”>Stumbleupon. When I happened across this youtube film that outlines the top 100 movie insults, So I put my movie trivia to the test and attempted to name them all. Out of the hundred I guessed 58 of the films and had to look up the rest, my personal challenge was to not use the list provided which I did not. The part I find most interesting is that of all the films I have only seen 39 of them that includes 7 that I didn’t guess, maybe this is why I am good at scene it. I will admit it was a good time killer doing this as well as all the insults in a row are pretty funny, there is also a part two but I am thinking of saving it for another day.

So enjoy

Rob Ford I am rooting for you

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
I found anarticle about how the mayor of Toronto a Mr. Rob Ford had pledged in Januarythat he was going to lose fifty lbs in 5 months. Let me just say that is a verybig challenge and good on you trying to set an example for the people of yourfine city. Well Mr. Ford stepped up on the scale for his final weigh in and unfortunatelymissed his goal by 33 pounds.

This is an Open Letter To: Mr. Rob Ford
Now your “Cut the Waist” PR campaign may have fallen down on the couch and decided that it wants another bag of chips but don’t feel discouraged. You are the mayor of Toronto and you got there because you represent average Joe. I will tell you a secret about the average Joe, see he struggles with weight loss too. I myself have been struggling over the past month with my weight loss, I set a goal in December to lose 70 spare pounds off at by this August and I have kind of hit a wall myself.
The media had a field day when you were spotted sneaking away from a KFC with a full and happy belly. We have all been there when I go home I have to pass by my favorite pizza joint and some nights I succumb to that desire and order a 14inch green pepper, red onion and ground beef pizza. It is hard some mornings when I am pushing my meat sack of a body around the gym and question myself as to why am I punish myself like this.
Remember this no matter what those vultures in the press say you sir are thirteen pounds lighter and that is something more than our mayor Nanshi here in Calgary can say. You set a goal for yourself and you did it publicly props to you, I couldn’t bring myself to do that, you have a big pair of cojones. According to a study done by the United nations 75 percent of North Americans are overweight so remember you are not alone in your struggle, so pull on your sweatband hit the gym and keep trying.
NEVER GIVE UP AND NEVER SURRENDER, this is the war on obesity and if we work together to help each other we can get through this.

WTF!: Fight Church

The world is beginning to become the kind of planet I don’t want to live on anymore the reasoning being multiple but ultimately it is due to a lot of things that are coming out of America. Whilst surfing the web today I found a kickstarter project called fight church, a documentary project that revolves around several people trying to connect their faith to a barbaric battle. I take a step back from this and go wait a tick is it not the ideal of Christianity to stop violence and promote love. Then I read the tag line for this feature and it reads “Can you really love your neighbor as yourself and then punch him in the face?” let me answer that like this NO.

Love and Violence do not go hand in hand, by asking if you can love your neighbor and then hurt him is like saying it is ok to beat you wife because you love her so much. These are very simple concepts that it appears are hard to comprehend but the best way I can put it is that you can pray to whatever deity you choose but if your deity is about love then violence is not in his realm. Don’t get me wrong I am all for organized fighting and martial arts and if you choose to have a religion all the more power to you but some things just don’t blend well together.

You can do both if you choose but taking a piece of sacred scripture and modifying it in such a way that the meaning is lost is terrible. These self proclaimed “Christians” are just as bad as the suicide bombers who warp their religion to make it ok to kill all the infidels. How people can look at something like this and say to themselves “Ya that makes sense” is beyond me.It is almost as if somebody was trying to figure out how to reach out to kids to get them to join religion and then they looked at fight club and was like bingo.

DO NOT bring your lords name into a fight or you are just asking to start another holy war or the next crusades. Leave you lord at the ring side. Don’t get me wrong I am not aiming my feelings of outrage at the film makers they are just taking a subject and recording it for us, I am upset at those featured in this film convincing children that god wants them to fight for him is just plain wrong. This documentary does nothing to help change the stereo type that Americans are bible thumpers who enjoy too much violence.

Home again

Well today I am freshly back home from a visit of the extended family out in the flat province of Manitoba. We got a little more visitation in before we boarded a metal tube with wings and jetted back home. As with any family trip we continued to meet hoards of new people whose names I have already pretty much forgotten which is ok because I do not believe that I will ever need to remember them.

After a swift check out of our hotel and a quick stop for life nectar, I mean coffee, at Tim’s we drove over to my uncle the father of the new groom. We arrived earlier than anyone else so we could help my uncle to set up for a hundred some odd BBQ he was holding in honor of his son and new daughter in-law. Being the first to arrive has some unique benefits that come along with it, the first is that my uncle being a bachelor with too much spare change means he has a pretty sick electric drum kit set up in his living room. Him not having anyone around a lot he was more than happy to let Brudar and myself play on his awesome big boy toy, Wifey however was not so impressed with our terrible attempts to have rhythm.

One of the other fun toys that my uncle has in his possession is a very large meat slicer complete with over sized rotating blade. He let me use this apparatus to slice all the vegetables for the BBQ, this is one kind of toy that makes prep work in the kitchen tons of fun.

We only got to stay to see a few of the guests arrive at the shin dig in my uncles back yard before we had to leave to catch our flight back home. As I have previously mentioned in my blog traveling with my direct family is frustrating and ultimately tiring. Last night I was glad to be home in my own house in my own bed going to sleep, travel is fun and all but ultimately it is nice to have my own space.

Today I started at my new job downtown like all jobs the first day is kinda boring because it is all about the orientation and getting to know what is expected of you within the job. Ultimately this is boring as all can be, you just sit there listening to human resources representatives tell you pretty basic things about safety and what kinds of forms you need to hunt down to get anything done. Alas it is not a total lose however some exciting things happened today, like i got my own cubical and my own office space with a name plate that means I am going up in the world. so here I go scaling up my corporate climbing wall because ladders are boring.

YWG Day Three: The Final Day

My cousins wedding was crazy amounts of fun last night and today is my last day in the city of Winnipeg. Being older now visiting with all my cousins is completely different then it was before when I was younger, I no longer feel like I am on the outside of the group like I use too. Conversing with my cousins is a lot more enjoyable now compared to when I was younger and I was the artistic kid and they all liked sports but this time we could laugh together and have a jolly old time. It was nice having my beautiful Wifey by my side while I rediscovered my family roots and ties, and like times gone past my brother stuck by me so that we wouldn’t have to face the kin alone but as a united front.

I have a slew of photos from the evening of my family that I want to share but right now I need to stop typing so I can pack. There is one more family event to go before we hop on a jet plane and head back to my wonderful city of Calgary. Check out is in a couple of hours and as always my father has planned everything down to the last minute for our trip so we must not be late for his very important dates and times.

I hope Mr. Devo is happy with the rock we found him on the beach of Lake Winnipeg.

YWG Day Two

This is the start of my second full day here in the grand city of Winnipeg and the events that transpired yesterday were indeed joyous so do allow me to recap. The day like all good adventures starting anywhere in Canada began with us trying to find a Tim Horton’s, which at first proved to be a challenge in upon itself. In a city that has the most restaurants per capita, according to my uncle, it took us twenty minutes of driving and almost giving up and settling for McDonalds before we found one. Ironically enough there is a Tim’s half a block from our hotel in the other direction then the direction we started our journey on. Due to my small size I was delegated to sit in the back of our rental bus, oops I mean SUV.

Then we were off to my Oma’s and Opa’s house, for those who are not of Germanic descent they are my grandparents, to show my Wifey where I spent every odd summer while I was growing up. I suppose this is the side of my family where I get my tendency to collect things because in my Oma’s house there are lots of things and pictures to look at. All the things that have been amassed have a story behind them so that makes it interesting and Oma is always willing to tell you where she got them.
Photobucket
Brudar and myself proceeded to show my Wifey around the estate of my family all the little uniquequirks about my Oma and Opa’s house. One thing about my clan is that we are not the greatest climbers in the world, sothere is a tree outside of my Oma’s house that has planks added to it to makeit easier for use ground loving folks to scamper up.Photobucket
Then we were off like a rocket to the quite family cabin for a day trip to enjoy old memories of a day long past. The road to the cabin took us through a little town called Gimli, which I found to be awesome and if you are geek like myself and enjoy lord of the rings then you know exactly who that is. For those who don’t know Gimli was the gruff and proud Dwarf who does not want the elf to know that Aragorn threw him.

We stopped here in town to do the most touristy thing imaginable, take pictures with a giant statue, but not just any statue but a giant landlocked Viking statue. So me and Brudar clambered out of the rental vehicle and climbed the statue, I know the clan is not good at climbing so we didn’t make it very high but we did it anyway. The reason we climbed was because there was absolutely no sign telling us not to, trust me I checked.

Back on the road we went to continue to our destination, the family cabin but one more thing the road that we traveled along is of some relevance. The road was number 222 and for those who know me you know that is a number is of significant importance to me and my kin. It took me and Brudar a couple times but we finally got a picture for proof.

Finally we made it to Helgoland the location of the family cabin.
Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
We headed straight down to the beach and the water’s edge. It is still a little to chilly for a dip in the lake this time of year so we decided to take a family walk along the sand. A ways down we found a playground and my family being the big kids we are all decided to play on the rusty structures.

We returned to the cabin itself for some lunch and a riveting game of yatzee with my little Opa, a game my Wifey knows of by heart how to score. Then we returned to the House of my Oma and Opa for some dinner we had a special guest join us tonight, my Oma Lucky. Oma Lucky is actually my great grandma who unfortunately suffers from alzheimer's we still care for her greatly even tho she is very far gone.

Some more visiting occurred then we returned to our hotel room for a good nights sleep to continue our adventuring
